Antibiotics are sometimes administered to destroy the bacterium that causes Salmonella food poisoning. Treatment with antibiotics can also prevent the bacteria from spreading into the bloodstream or causing damage to other tissues. Antidiarrheals help alleviate stomach cramps. However, the best and most widely used "medication" for Salmonella food poisoning is fluids, which help "flush out" the bacteria and combat dangerous dehydration.
