Are there alternative treatments for Salmonella food poisoning?

Dr. Jeanne Morrison, PhD
Family Practitioner

Probiotics and herbs can aid in your recovery from Salmonella food poisoning. Probiotics mimic "good" bacteria that usually live in your stomach and help fight the Salmonella bacteria. Most doctors say that these alternative remedies, if used, should only be taken in addition to a traditional medicaltreatment.

Drinking clear fluids can also contribute to a good recovery. Apple cider vinegar is a traditional alternative treatment and, while not proven, some believe it has antimicrobial properties. Chamomile or ginger tea can also be soothing to the stomach and intestines.
