Should all rugby players train the same way for cardio?

When designing energy-system based intervals, look at the demands of each player.  By looking at the overall demands of a rugby player, it has been discovered that many play at a constant level of intensity throughout the game.  This is usually around a 75% effort.  There are positions that demand long sprints, and these energy system demands must be addressed separately from the rest of the team.  Players that do sprints throughout the game will need to work on repeated sprint routines that will not only work on speed, but also recovery so they can perform the sprint again at the same high intensity at the end of the game.  The rest of the team needs to do more endurance training, at around 75% effort for long periods of time with short, high-intensity bursts of power.  A lot of this type of training can be done in game situations during practice.  An additional ten minutes of conditioning based on the length of your sprints at the end of practice a couple times a week should be enough.
