What are the symptoms of rosacea?

Dr. Jeanne Morrison, PhD
Family Practitioner

The most common symptoms or rosacea are red blotches of skin and small pimples on your face. Some people also develop visible blood vessels around their nose and cheeks. Depending how far along the disease has progressed you may develop a condition called rhinophyma as well. This involves thickening of the skin on your nose often making it appear red and round in shape. In about half of rosacea cases, the disorder also affects the eyes, making them burn and feel as though they have sand in them. This is referred to as ocular rosacea. Being prone to blushing and getting flushed can be symptomatic of rosacea as well.
