Why is rosacea particularly active in the winter months?

Winter weather can trigger rosacea flares in many people. In a recent survey, more than a third of people with rosacea said biting winds and cold temperatures irritate their skin. To combat winter weather and protect your skin, be sure to continue your rosacea treatments as recommended by your dermatologist, and ask him or her to suggest a barrier-repair emollient for your skin. Minimize your outdoor activities on very cold days, and wear a hat and scarf when you do venture out. Also, tempting though it might be to crank up the indoor heat and drink lots of hot beverages, these heat sources can also trigger rosacea in some people.
