How do environmental issues affect rosacea?

Dr. Mehmet Oz, MD
Cardiology (Cardiovascular Disease)
No one knows what causes rosacea, but it's clear that certain environmental "triggers" can produce flare-ups or make the problem worse. Triggers for rosacea flare-ups vary greatly from one person to another. Something that may turn you red in the face may have no effect on another person with this condition. However, the National Rosacea Society has compiled a list of common triggers. The top five in order are:
  • sun exposure
  • emotional stress
  • hot weather
  • wind
  • heavy exercise
Many other environmental influences can trigger rosacea for some people, including certain foods, medications, and skin-care products. Keeping a rosacea diary to pinpoint your triggers can help keep your condition under better control.
