Is housecleaning an issue with rosacea?

Dr. Mehmet Oz, MD
Cardiology (Cardiovascular Disease)
Housecleaning may expose you to some common triggers for rosacea. These include becoming overheated and exposure to hot water and chemicals that may irritate your skin. To minimize these risks, try to do your most strenuous housecleaning during cooler times of the day, early morning or evening. If you start to become overheated and flushed, cool down by sucking on ice cubes or drinking cold water, taking a cool shower, or draping a cold towel around your neck. Wear plastic gloves when immersing hands in water and cleansers, and try to keep your hands off of your face while cleaning. Avoid using very hot water to clean, if possible, and limit your exposure to cleaning supplies that contain fragrances or caustic chemicals such as chlorine bleach. Consult your dermatologist for advice on cleaning supplies that are best for people with rosacea.
