How can I prevent bruising after nose surgery (Rhinoplasty)?

Stuart A. Linder, MD
Plastic Surgery

To reduce bruising after rhinoplasty surgery several steps will be recommended by your facial plastic surgeon. Ice compression is most helpful in reducing swelling for at least 48 hours. Elevation of the head is vital to reduce swelling and enhance venous return from the head and neck region. Arnica may also be used the morning of surgery and continued after for several days until the bruising subsides. A nasal splint may also be applied to reduce nasal bridge swelling and edema.
