What is alitretinoin?

Alitretinoin is a medication used to treat skin lesions that result from Kaposi's sarcoma. Though it will not cure the lesions, alitretinoin can help with symptoms. Part of the drug group of retinoids, alitretinoin does this by slowing or even stopping the growth of Kaposi's sarcoma cells. This medication comes as a prescription topical gel under the brand name Panretin, which has no generic equivalents. Most people will apply this topical gel twice daily to see optimal results.
