What causes radiation fibrosis?

Radiation fibrosis is caused by overexposure to radiation. This most often occurs during treatment for breast, lung, or skin cancer. Although prolonged cancer treatment is the common cause, any prolonged exposure to radiation can cause radiation damage and scarring of the affected area.
