Is radiation fibrosis serious?

It takes prolonged exposure to radiation for fibrosis to even begin to develop. Once radiation fibrosis develops, it is irreversible in most cases and can lead to death. However, not all people with radiation fibrosis experience acute symptoms. Symptoms can be treated, and new therapies are being developed to reverse the scarring in some case.
