Can restless legs syndrome be prevented?

The problem with trying to prevent restless legs syndrome is that no one knows exactly what causes it. In many cases, people with the condition have a family history of RLS, which means that there probably is a genetic link. However, certain risk factors can be managed. Treating your kidney failure, diabetes, and peripheral neuropathy can result in relief of RLS. Limiting alcohol consumption and getting enough sleep can also help with RLS symptoms.
