What are the side effects of cyproheptadine (Periactin)?

If you experience any of the following side effects of cyproheptadine (Periactin) that do not resolve or get worse, call your doctor:
  • Dry mouth, nose and throat
  • Drowsiness
  • Dizziness
  • Nausea
  • Chest congestion
  • Headaches
  • Excitement (especially in children)
  • Muscle weakness
Some side effects are more rare, but may be much more serious. Call your doctor right away you have:
  • Difficulty urinating
  • Problems with your vision
  • Nervousness
