What is Prolastin C?

Prolastin C is an alpha 1-proteinase inhibitor. Alpha 1-proteinase inhibitor (or alpha 1-antitrypsin) is a naturally occurring protein that helps stop the deterioration of lung tissue. Some people suffer from genetic alpha 1-antitrypsin, and can develop emphysema as a result of lung tissue deterioration. Prolastin C can treat the symptoms of alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency by slowing the progression of this deterioration. It is not a cure for the condition. Prolastin C is also available under the brand names Prolastin, Aralast, Aralast NP, Zemaira.
