Aralast is an alpha 1-protease inhibitor that relieves symptoms of emphysema caused by deficiency of a particular protein, alpha 1-antitrypsin. It acts as a replacement for this protein, which helps keep lung tissue from disintegrating. Some people have an inherited genetic disorder making them incapable of producing this enzyme naturally.
You will receive Aralast as an injection at your doctor's office or a clinic or hospital. This drug is a brand-name prescription medication also marketed under the names Aralast NP, Prolastin and Zemaira.
