What are the side effects of hydroxyzine hydrochloride (HCl)?

Hydroxyzine may cause side effects in some people. The most commonly experienced side effect is drowsiness, which is typically temporary and may only last a few days or until the dosage has been reduced. Other side effects may include dry mouth, nose and throat; upset stomach; dizziness; chest congestion; headaches and reddening of skin. Some side effects can be serious. If you experience difficulty breathing, muscle weakness or increased anxiety, call your doctor immediately. At doses higher than recommended, some people may experience convulsions and tremors.
