How does Prolastin C treat alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency?

Prolastin C replaces the naturally-occurring protein alpha 1-antitrypsin with alpha 1-proteinase inhibitor to treat alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency. Those with alpha 1-antitrypsin deficiency may develop emphysema. Prolastin C works to prevent the deterioration of lung tissue by replenishing the deficient protein. Prolastin C is made from the purified human donor plasma.
