How soon after starting Kalydeco will my symptoms improve?

The findings from clinical trials might be an indication of how soon your symptoms may improve after starting Kalydeco (ivacaftor). Kalydeco, a prescription drug to treat a certain form of cystic fibrosis, has been studied in two clinical trials that each lasted nearly a year (48 weeks). After 24 weeks, people who took Kalydeco had significant symptom improvement -- in lung function, for example -- compared to people who took a placebo (a sugar pill containing no active ingredients).

The studies didn't report on changes in lung function and other cystic fibrosis symptoms that might have occurred earlier than 24 weeks, so it's not known if your symptoms may start improving sooner than that. The improvement in symptoms continued throughout the 48 weeks of the studies.
