The best way to prevent and treat respiratory allergies is to avoid the allergen that causes your reaction. For people with respiratory allergies, certain medications-which can include prescriptions or over-the-counter medications-may help control and manage symptoms. In some cases, your doctor may also suggest immunotherapy, a treatment that involves weekly shots that decrease the severity of your allergies over time.
