At what age is it appropriate to begin resistance training?

Resistance training can, and should, be used at all levels of sports, just with a different intensity, volume, and goal depending on the age of the athlete. Youth and adolescents will most likely benefit more from exercises using their bodyweight or light elastic bands as resistance. Increasing intensities with external loads should only be done under the supervision of a qualified coach or instructor. It is important to remember that resistance training does not automatically mean lifting heavy weights.
