Who is a candidate for metabolic surgery?

To be a candidate for metabolic surgery, you have to meet certain criteria related to weight. You would have to have a body mass index (BMI) of at least 35 coupled with the development of diabetes, high blood pressure, or high cholesterol. There is certainly a lot of interest in expanding these criteria because patients at a lower weight may benefit from the metabolic improvements that are afforded after the operations.
