Why do some women make friends more easily compared to others?

Friends, like family, can make you feel as if you’re the luckiest gal in the world - or they can be one more category of animate objects to care for. Actually, unlike family, where fortune plays a major role in whom we end up with, having solid, supportive, there-for-you-anytime friends is hardly a matter of luck because we get to choose our friends. I’ve known women who’ve moved around the country and lived all over the world, from childhood through adulthood, and have best buddies from every place they’ve settled. I’ve also known women who find it hard to make friends, who insist there’s no one around, and that people aren’t open or interested in befriending them. Funny how this latter group of women nearly always winds up isolating themselves or choosing friends most of us wouldn’t touch with a ten-foot licorice stick.

I’m not saying that circumstances don’t play a part in hooking up with buddies. Relocating a lot, having little time to devote to socializing, or even being terribly shy can all make seeking and finding sympatico people difficult. Plus, some highly sociable women have more good friends than they know what to do with because they’re so outgoing and friendly that friendships sprout up wherever they go. They’re people magnets and can’t help but draw folks to them.
