What increases my risk for a ranula?

Mouth surgery may increase the risk for getting a ranula. Some ranulas form spontaneously, but others may result from mouth traumas, like surgery or an injury. There are no additional risks known as ranulas are not passed from person to person, nor are they caused by bacteria, viruses, or fungi.
