What is Imovax Rabies?

Imovax Rabies is a brand name of the active ingredient called rabies vaccine which is produced from inactivated (or dead) rabies virus. It is used to prevent and to treat rabies infection. Rabies is a fatal (if untreated) viral infection that is spread from animals to humans through the saliva of an infected animal. Pre-exposure Imovax in a three-dose series is administered to protect people at high risk of coming into contact with an infected animal (such as veterinarians, wildlife workers, animal care handlers and spelunkers). Post-exposure Imovax in a four-dose series is administered, with rabies immune globulin, to prevent infection in people who have been exposed to the saliva of an animal known or suspected to be infected with Rabies virus.
