Can pulmonary Langerhans' cell histiocytosis (PLCH) be prevented?

The cause of pulmonary Langerhans' cell histiocytosis (PLCH) is unknown, so there aren't too many things you can do to prevent the disease. However, you may be able to reduce your risk by avoiding smoking cigarettes, or by quitting smoking if you do smoke. Stopping smoking can also help reduce symptoms once you develop PLCH.
