What should I know about using sunscreen if I have scalp psoriasis?

Dr. Mehmet Oz, MD
Cardiology (Cardiovascular Disease)
Scalp psoriasis symptoms include very dry, scaly skin on your scalp. You should use extra caution to protect your scalp from sunburn. Too much sun can cause your scalp psoriasis to get worse.

However, mild sun exposure, especially UVB light, may help to improve your scalp psoriasis. Your dermatologist may suggest that you enjoy the outdoors on a limited basis, and always with sun protection. Use a broad-spectrum sunscreen that protects against UVA and UVB rays with a sun protection factor (SPF) of at least 30. Your doctor may recommend that you use a sunscreen made for sensitive skin.
