How do medications treat guttate psoriasis?

Medications treat guttate psoriasis by helping to control symptoms and sometimes by suppressing the body's immune system. Doctors believe guttate psoriasis is caused by the body mistaking healthy cells for foreign substances. The body has an inflammatory reaction that makes new skin cells reach the outer layer of skin and build up faster than they can slough off. This process produces the characteristic teardrop-shaped, reddish or pink, skin lesions of guttate psoriasis. Certain medications suppress the reaction of the immune system by interrupting the process causing the abnormal buildup of cells. Other medications reduce symptoms such as itching and dry skin.
