How does erythrodermic psoriasis affect the body?

The widespread skin redness and peeling that comes with erythrodermic psoriasis can be life-threatening. Similar to when you have a sunburn, which is basically what this condition looks like, your skin's ability to keep the body hydrated and at the right temperature is impaired. Therefore, your body may lose fluid and protein that is vital to the body. Sometimes, the condition may cause swelling due to the collection of fluid in tissue. Your body can't maintain a comfortable body temperature, so you may have chills or a fever. Aside from not being able to keep good things inside the body, your skin is less able to keep infection out of the body. Erythrodermic psoriasis also forces more blood flow to the skin, which can make the heart beat too fast.
