What should I know about goserelin implants before getting them?

The potential risks associated with goserelin implants include weakened bones and bone pain. The risk for decreased bone density is especially increased in people who smoke, drink alcohol frequently, have a family history of osteoporosis or are taking certain medications. To reduce your risk, tell your doctor about your full medical history before getting goserelin implants. Your symptoms may become temporarily worse when you first get goserelin implants, but they should improve after a few weeks of treatment. Women who have goserelin implants usually do not get their menstrual periods, but if menstruation continues sexually active women may become pregnant. In this case women must use a reliable form of birth control in order to prevent birth defects associated with taking goserelin.
