People with prolactinoma are at a higher risk for developing osteoporosis. Prolactinoma causes too much prolactin in the body, which leads to lower levels of estrogen and testosterone. This may decrease bone density in both women and men. Decreased bone density increases the risk for osteoporosis, which is a condition in which bones become weak and fragile. Because of this, it's especially important for people with prolactinoma to get enough calcium and vitamin D, either through food or through vitamin supplements.
