Who should not take megestrol?

Megestrol is an artificial version of the female sex hormone progesterone. Pregnant women should not take this drug because it can harm the unborn baby. If you are pregnant or think you might be, tell your doctor. Megestrol can change or stop your normal menstrual cycle, but you can still get pregnant while using it, so use reliable birth control.
