What is Megace?

Megace, a brand name for megestrol, is a progestin drug prescribed to treat symptoms of advanced stages of breast and endometrial cancers. Megace works by mimicking the hormone progesterone, which interferes with the other female hormones causing cancer. People experiencing lack of appetite, weight loss  and malnutrition due to acquired immunodeficiency syndrome (AIDS), may also receive Megace to treat these symptoms. Megace works to stimulate appetite to promote weight gain and better nourishment.
