What should I know about megestrol suspension before taking it?

This medication should not be taken during pregnancy as it may cause birth defects. You should also not take megestrol acetate oral suspension while breast-feeding because it passes into breast milk. Your body may produce a lesser amount of natural steroids during or after treatment with this medication which could cause dizziness, nausea, vomiting, and unusual weakness. If you experience any of these symptoms, tell your doctor immediately. This medication could also increase your blood sugar levels. If you experience flushing, fruit-like breath odor, or fast breathing, inform your doctor immediately. These may be symptoms of high blood sugar. If you are diabetic, make sure that your doctor is aware of this before you start taking megestrol acetate oral suspension.
