What does failure to progress mean in a pregnancy?

Failure to progress refers to specific stages of labor (NOT PREGNANCY) not progressing as typically, either taking much longer than typical or actually stalling so that a C-section is required for the baby's safety. First, second and third stages of labor are monitored by skilled OB Nurses and an OB Physician or Nurse Practitioner; if at any point the fetus is in distress a C-section may be performed.
