Morning sickness, which includes nausea and vomiting, is very common during pregnancy. When it is so severe that it results in weight loss and dehydration, it is called hyperemesis gravidarum. Morning sickness is generally caused by hormonal changes, but the causes for hyperemesis gravidarum are relatively unknown. Severe cases of morning sickness may be associated with conditions that are not related to pregnancy.
