Vaginal bleeding is the main way that placenta previa affects the body. While a little bleeding is usually okay (as long as it stops for periods of time), severe bleeding is not. Too much bleeding, known as hemorrhage, may occur during labor and delivery (and possibly continue on for a couple of hours). The body is not able to function, leading to shock and, in some cases, death.
