How is chorioamnionitis diagnosed?

Doctors use a multifaceted approach to diagnose chorioamnionitis. This approach includes a physical exam to evaluate your symptoms and blood tests to look for signs of infection. Your doctor may also perform an amniocentesis. This is a test where some of the fluid that surrounds your baby is removed and examined for the presence of bacteria and other abnormal cells.
