Polyhydramnios occurs during one to two percent of pregnancies. Most of these cases are mild and may not require any active treatment. Polyhydramnios is only severe enough to cause stillbirth in 0.4 percent of all cases (compared to 0.2 percent of pregnancies with normal amniotic fluid volume).
According to the March of Dimes, polyhydramnios occurs in about 1 in 100 pregnancies.
