How common is chorioamnionitis?

The true rate of occurrence of chorioamnionitis is unknown, but it is believed that between .5% and 10% of pregnancies are affected in the United States. Chorioamnionitis rarely causes death in mothers, but this is not the case for babies. The mortality rate for infants ranges between 1% to more than 10%, depending on the prematurity of the baby.
