How does hyperemesis gravidarum affect the body?

Morning sickness is caused by an increased level of hormones during pregnancy. This includes estrogen and human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG), two essential hormones for pregnancy. In hyperemesis gravidarum, the morning sickness is so severe that it causes dehydration and weight loss. Hyperemesis gravidarum needs to be treated with fluids and, sometimes, drugs to help relieve symptoms.

Some experts believe that hyperemesis gravidarum is associated with psychological problems. Women with hyperemesis gravidarum may suffer from depression and other mental disorders due to the severity of their symptoms and inability to function normally during pregnancy.
