When should I call my doctor if I am taking prednisone?

If you're taking the steroid prednisone, call your doctor right away if you experience:

vision problems
eye pain
depression
confusion
uncontrollable shaking of your hands
very upset stomach or stomach pain
irregular heartbeat
hives
rash
itching
difficulty breathing or swallowing
unusual swelling
signs of infection (fever, chills, cough, sore throat)
seizures
loss of contact with reality
muscle twitching or tightening
vomiting
lightheadedness
sudden weight gain
shortness of breath
stomach pain
bloody stools
numbness, burning or tingling in the extremities

All of these can be signs of serious side effects of the medication.

You should also call your doctor right away if you become pregnant while taking prednisone.
