How can death from pneumonia be prevented?

If you have any of the following symptoms, it would be wise to see a doctor to assess if you have pneumonia: shortness of breath, cough with phlegm, fever (more than 100.4 F, 38 C), chest pain with breathing, poor appetite, lethargy, confusion. If your immune system is weak (from cancer, diabetes, chronic illness, steroid medication, or immunosuppressive medication), you may have few symptoms. Therefore, go to your doctor if you feel unwell.
