Pituitary disorders can have a major effect on a woman's menstrual cycle. When the pituitary causes too much of a hormone called prolactin to be produced, a woman can experience irregular menstrual cycles or a lack of periods altogether. Too much prolactin can also cause a woman's breasts to produce a discharge that resembles milk.
