Does paralysis occur more often in children than adults?

Paralysis does not occur more often in children than adults. According to the Centers for Disease Control, the most common causes of paralysis are spinal cord injury and stroke. The rate of incidence for paralysis caused by birth defects and childhood illnesses is small. Polio used to be a common cause of paralysis in children, but it has been nearly eradicated by vaccines in the last 50 years.
