Is there a cure for speech impairments?

Whether or not a speech impairment can be cured depends on the kind of speech impairment, what is causing it, and how effective treatment is. Many children grow out of speech impairments and aren't further troubled by speech impairments. Others learn how to speak more clearly through speech training from a pathologist. If the cause of a speech impairment is physical, like a cleft palate, surgery can repair the cause of the impairment. Some speech impairments that are caused by incurable conditions, such as degenerative disorders or mental retardation, cannot be cured. However, treatment can help these people communicate much better.
