Can speech impairments have any complications?

Speech impairments certainly aren't going to have any life-threatening complications, but they can cause emotional and developmental problems. Children are at risk to develop psychosocial problems because their social development can be negatively impacted by a speech impairment. Adults may also have social problems because they may lose their ability to communicate well, which can cause relationship problems with family and friends. Both children and adults may develop emotional complications such as depression.
