Are speech impairments serious?

Not all speech impairments are serious, but sometimes they can have negative consequences, particularly if they are severe impairments. In children, a severe speech impairment can affect social development as well as educational development. Because speech impairments make it difficult for people to communicate, they may affect social relationships and a person's emotional well-being as well due to feelings of frustration, isolation, and depression.
