Can animal phobias be prevented?

Although the cause of animal phobia is still unknown, two factors which may trigger a phobia are the occurrence of a traumatic event and the existence of the phobia in a parent. Because of the link between a parent's specific phobia and that of a child, parents can help prevent the development of animal phobias in their children by seeking treatment for themselves. Animal phobias almost always can be effectively treated through therapy, and so by immediately seeking treatment of the phobia, you can overcome the phobia and prevent it from influencing your child.
