What should I know about Tudorza Pressair before using it?

Before using Tudorza Pressair (aclidinium), you should know that it is a drug that treats the tightening of airway muscles in order to help ease respiratory conditions such as chronic bronchitis, emphysema and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD). The medicine is delivered by an inhaler. However, Tudorza Pressair is not a rescue therapy. Your doctor may give you other medicine to use when you have sudden breathing problems. Tudorza Pressair is designed to be used twice a day for long-term maintenance treatment. It works by helping the muscles of the large airways stay relaxed so that air flows better and breathing improves.

You should know that inhaled medicines such as Tudorza Pressair can cause paradoxical bronchospasm -- a sudden shortness of breath or a coughing bout brought on by taking the medicine.

You should know that Tudorza Pressair may cause narrow-angle glaucoma or urinary retention or worsen these conditions if you already have them. Signs include:
  • eye pain or discomfort
  • blurred vision
  • halos around the objects you see
  • colored images
Call your doctor if you have any of these, especially if you also have red eyes.

You should know that people sometimes experience sudden allergic reactions to Tudorza Pressair. Be sure to tell your doctor if you are sensitive to atropine or milk proteins. You should also give your doctor a complete medical history before taking this drug. In addition, tell him or her about all your other medicines (prescription and nonprescription), as well as any supplements you take.
