Uniphyl is no longer available in the United States.
Uniphyl is the brand name of a specific formulation of the drug theophylline. Uniphyl relaxes the muscles in the airways (bronchial tubes) of the lungs. When these muscles are relaxed, symptoms such as coughing, shortness of breath, wheezing and trouble breathing are reduced, because more air can get through to the lungs. Uniphyl is used to treat the symptoms of asthma, emphysema, bronchitis and other diseases involving the lungs. Uniphyl is available in a number of different formulations, depending on need and preference. Uniphyl comes as an extended release (24 hour) tablet.
